Philippines Hit By Typhoon

Luzon, the largest island in the Philippines was yesterday hit by Typhoon Trami. (Locally called Kristine)

Two months worth of rain fell in the Bicol area within 24 hours.

Many communities are flooded, some as deep as the roof level in 2 storey homes.

Our local partner ‘Safe Water for Every Child-Philippines‘ is preparing to travel to Bicol with SkyHydrants to deliver safe water to affected communities.

They will be working with Philippine Rotary Clubs.

NEPAL FLOODS

This year Nepal has suffered the worst floods since records began.

The rain and floodwaters have also triggered massive landslides.

Over 230 people are known to have died and 81,000 people have been displaced from their homes.

Disaster Aid Australia is currently planning a Smart Aid response to these catastrophic events in conjunction with Disaster Aid Nepal.

This will include assistance with both Safe Drinking Water and Shelter.

We are targeting our response at Bethanchowk Rural Municipality and Bhumlu Rural Municipality, both East of Kathamndu.

North Thailand Floods

After very heavy rain over several days a massive downpour has hit the waterlogged mountains in Northern Thailand in the last two days.

This has led to major damage across a wide area.

The situation is dire in Chiang Rai, where 12,700 households have been severely impacted, and tragically, 4 lives have been lost.

Our local partner Disaster Aid Thailand has already started to respond and will be providing assistance to many communities.

One of the critical issues in such flooding events is the fact that there is no safe clean water and Disaster Aid Australia has been asked to assist with our Smart Aid SkyHydrants.

Each SkyHydrant GEM Rapid Response Pack can provide 5,000 litres/day of clean bacteria free water.

Disater Aid Response Team members (DARTs) will be travelling to assist with safe water and shelter for people who have either lost their homes or have them badly damaged.
